Photo of the Month October 2010

Hoover Dam at Night

Each month I will offer a photo in an 11 x 14 (print only) for $24.50, which is 1/2 of the normal print price.  This will be available only for a limited time and only on prints ordered through this page.  Click on the picture to order, then click “add to cart” and complete the checkout process.

Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada. When completed in 1936, it was both the world’s largest hydroelectric power generating station and the world’s largest concrete structure.
Construction of the Colorado River Bridge is completed on the 1,060 foot twin-rib concrete arch.  The Colorado River Bridge is the central portion of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project. Construction on the nearly 2,000 foot long bridge began in late January 2005 and the completion of the entire Hoover Dam Bypass Project is expected in Late 2010.  This signature bridge will span the Black Canyon (about 1,500 feet south of the Hoover Dam), connecting the Arizona and Nevada Approach highways nearly 900-feet above the Colorado River.  The bridge is scheduled to open in November of 2010.
The photo was taken at night and is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) photo comprised of 3 separate exposures ranging from 1/2 to 8 seconds long, then combined using computer software, allowing me to capture all of the scene.
