Learn Digital Photography Class 1-8-2013

Learn Digital Photography ClassThis is a six week, 2 1/2 hour per week of classroom instruction and a location shoot. The course is designed for the beginner to novice photographer with a DSLR camera. The course is not intended for film photographers, although much of the photographic technique is the same, a great deal of the content will only apply to digital. There are only three things that control exposure, the ISO speed of your film or camera, the Aperture (the size of the lens opening), and the shutter speed (how long the lens is open). This class will show you how, using “Liquid Light” , these three things interact to give control of the exposure and therefore the final image’s impact. Once you understand exposure you can use it to create many photographic effects, including motion blur, freezing the subject, blurred backgrounds, and depth of field. You will learn that the camera is your enemy when shooting on “Program or Auto” and that you must take control away from the camera and turn it over to your creative vision. |
Topics Covered Include:
- How to use your exposure meter
- Understanding and using the histogram
- Camera Settings
- Depth of Field
- Shutter Speed
- Composition techniques such as:
- The Rule of Thirds
- Leading Lines
- S curves
- Light
- Learn about equipment including:
- Lenses
- Filters
- Flash
- Tripods
- Cases and bags
- Gadgets
- Advanced Techniques
- Flash
- High Dynamic Range (HDR)

Digital WorkflowToday’s digital camera can do an excellent job of getting a good exposure, but creating the image is entirely up to the photographer. Once you have taken the image you must process it before it can reach the full potential. |
Learn digital workflow:
- RAW files verses JPEG
- Download and organize you images
- Backup of you image library
- Basic post processing
- Emailing photos
- Printing

What is Not Included
Transportation to and from the workshop, lodging, meals, incidental expenses and items of a personal nature.
My philosophy on lodging and meals is that by not including them in the workshop each participant is free to choose their own level of accommodation and choice of meals. I have some participants stay in high end motels, while others prefer camping or RV’s. If these items were included in the workshop fee, it would simply be increased to cover the expenses plus a margin to be sure I did not loose money.
Meals are not provided, and are the responsibility of the participant. We will have the option of going and eating meals as a group, during which we can continue our discussion, or you may have meals on your own.
Registration, Payment, and Refund Policy
You can register any way you like, just so I get your information, you can use the online registration, the contact form, email, postal mail, or call me on the phone (479-414-6889) either to register or just ask a question. Enrollment is limited, so once you have been accepted your participation is important to us – we are counting on you to attend.
If you must withdraw from a course, we must receive written notice of your cancellation, and then apply the following refund policy: We do not make refunds on workshop or class fees. We do not make partial refunds for unused portions or services of a workshop for any reason whatsoever. If we are able to fill your space in the workshop we will give full credit towards another workshop. If we are not able to fill your space we will issue 50% credit towards a future workshop.
