Learn Digital Photography Class Starting March 5, 2012

New Session Starting Monday March 5, 2012

This is a six week, 2 1/2 hour per week of classroom instruction and a location shoot. The course is designed for the beginner to novice photographer with a DSLR camera. The course is not intended for film photographers, although much of the photographic technique is the same, a great deal of the content will only apply to digital.
There are only three things that control exposure, the ISO speed of your film or camera, the Aperture (the size of the lens opening), and the shutter speed (how long the lens is open). This class will show you how, using “Liquid Light” , these three things interact to give control of the exposure and therefore the final image’s impact.
Once you understand exposure you can use it to create many photographic effects, including motion blur, freezing the subject, blurred backgrounds, and depth of field. You will learn that the camera is your enemy when shooting on “Program or Auto” and that you must take control away from the camera and turn it over to your creative vision. You will learn how to use your digital camera’s tools, such as the ”exposure meter” and “histogram” to give you the control over exposure needed for “fantastic” (not just properly) exposed photos.
You will learn to use composition techniques such as: the Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, S curves, C curves, Light, and many others to add interest to your images. Today’s digital camera can do an excellent job of getting a good exposure, but creating the image is entirely up to the photographer.
You will learn about equipment, including lens, flash, tripods, cases, and many of the specialty gadgets that are available.
Once you have taken the image you must process it before it can reach the full potential, we will cover how to download, organize and backup your image library. We will learn about the benefits of shooting RAW files verses JPEG or TIF and how to do basic editing using Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) or Adobe Lightroom.
There will be homework assignments, and in class reviews by both the instructor and the other class participants.
Just over halfway through the class we will do an in field photo shoot, to apply what you have learned about capturing the image and then use these images to complete the image processing part of the class.

Learn Lightroom Class Starting February 28, 2012

Class begins Tuesday February 28, 2012

Learn complete Digital Workflow using Adobe Lightroom

Lightroom 4 will be realeased soon, but the basic skills learned in this class will be same same, and we will cover the new features in Lightroom 4.

Learn Lightroom  is a six week 2 1/2 hours per week of hands on classroom instruction.  You will actually go through the entire process and develop a digital workflow on your computer with your images (if you don’t have images you should take the Learn Digital Photography Class).

  •  Learning to apply keywords and setting up a proper keyword hierarchy will save countless hours locating photos in the future and for online searches when you publish to the web.  You will learn to use collections, smart collections and additional metadata to make organizing your entire library fast and efficient.
  • You will learn to achieve fantastic tone and color using simple sliders, and using  the new greatly improved sharpening and noise reduction, you will think you have a new camera.  The new lens profiles and their manual controls allow for correcting lens distortions or creating dramatic effects.  Dodging and burning are simple tasks in lightroom using the adjustment brush.  All of this in a totally non destructive work environment designed to speed you through the  process.
  • Even with all the power of lightroom there will still be times when you will need the full power of Photoshop, and you will learn how to make the two work together for a seamless workflow.
  • After developing your images they will be ready for export, and you will learn how easy it is to get the file type and size you need.
  •  You will learn about the 3rd party plugins that speed your workflow even more.

Arcadia Oklahoma Route 66 Gallery

Arcadia is located 15 miles north of Oklahoma City and is home to the Famous Round Barn, which has become one of the most visited and photographed buildings on Route 66.

The Round Barn in Arcadia Oklahoma was built by William Oder in 1998 and served as a home for cattle. The barn is 60′ in diameter and 45′ tall. The barn’s second story was also used as a place for dances for the locals. The barn has become one of the best known Route 66 landmarks in the country and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. In 1998 the barns roof collapsed and knowing it would be no small feat, Luther “Luke” Robison (a retired building contractor) had long admired the Round Barn and decided that he would save it from utter ruin. He and the Over the Hill Gang, (a group of retirees) volunteered their time, money and skill to the task. The barn is now completely restored and open to the public
