Photography Boot Camp

October 30 to November 5, 2016

This will be a week-long intense photography learning opportunity, including classroom work, photo shoots, and post processing with Adobe Lightroom.  This will be a very small group and a great way for obtaining one on one photography education, while having a good time and making new friends.

I will host this at my cabin at Lake Ouachita, where participants will stay for the workshop. This will be a great learning experience where we can talk photography while cooking steaks on the grill or kicking back on the porch.

The Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs Arkansas was originally opened in 1875, and razed to make way for new structure in 1893. This was replaced by the current building in 1924 after being destroyed by fire. The Arlington’s luxurious accommodations and location in America’s Spa City have attracted many famous guests including U.S. presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, George H.W. Bush, and native son Bill Clinton. Many baseball greats such as Babe Ruth as well as championship boxers have relaxed and enjoyed the thermal baths at the Arlington. Stars such as Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand and Yoko Ono have all luxuriated at the hotel. Al Capone, whose favorite room was 442, had the whole floor for his staff and bodyguards. He could look across the street from his window and see the activities at the Southern Club, now the Wax Museum.

The schedule for this event will be very dependent upon the interests of the participants.  During the week though we will plan to photograph Little Missouri Falls and Cossatot River Falls, star trails and the night sky, Hot Springs National Park, Talimena Scenic Drive, and other locations.

The Talimena Scenic Drive in the fall, which runs from Mena AR to Talihina Ok. The road travels within the Ouachita National Forest along the highest peaks of the Winding Stair Mountains, part of the Ouachita Mountain chain.

We will not only do some great photo shoots, but will then go through a complete post processing workflow in Adobe Lightroom including importing, file organization, and complete post processing.  We will cover HDR and Panorama workflows from capture to final image.

We will have several night photo shoots making use of the techniques we will learn in classroom instruction, followed up with post processing including how to stack star-trails.
