Printing 101 Plus Much More

Join me for a two day hands on print making workshop In which we will go through the complete process of making your own digital prints.  Our primary software will be Adobe Lightroom CC Classic.  We will cover topics such as color correction, color calibration,  ICC color profiles, white balance, color space, RGB,  CMYK, and many other aspects of color management necessary to achieve output that matches what you see on your screen.

You will have the opportunity to calibrate you own monitor prior to making any adjustments or prints during the workshop.  This is the first step in a color managed workflow, and if it is not correct the rest is simply guesswork.

We will learn a complete lightroom processing workflow to ensure that we have the best possible image. We will work with printing from lightroom which has many great features to make your printing fast and easy. We will explore the power of Lightroom print templates and learn to create our own custom templates. We will learn to use soft proofing in Lightroom and make adjustments to your image specific to the printer paper and ink combination actually being used.

Learn to convert to black and white with creative control using color channels and other tools to get the best B&W prints.

Learn to remove noise, and apply both creative and output sharpening to your images prior to printing.

Learn what resolution is needed for printing and how to resample you images for high quality prints. We will learn to size your images to the correct aspect ratio for printing standard or non-standard size prints, putting an end to cut off images whether you print your own or send them off to be printed.

Students are encouraged to bring their own printer if possible to work with during the workshop. This will ensure that you will learn how to operate you own printer to its full potential. We will also use my large-format cannon professional printer, which we will use during the workshop to create a 24″ x 36″ gallery wrap canvas for each participant of one of their own favorite images.

The workshop will be limited to three participants to ensure a one-on-one hands-on learning experience. The workshop will take place in my own private studio and work-space in Fort Smith Arkansas.

Creating a true quality exhibition print involves three major steps. The first step is to capture the vision of the photographer, the second step is post-processing to ensure that vision shows in a completed image, and the third is to create a print that fulfills the vision of the photographer. This can truly only be accomplished when the photographer has complete control of the process from start to finish.

Once you’ve made a print it’s not complete until it’s made ready for presentation. We will learn basic matting and framing how you can cut your own maps as well as learning to print on canvas and create gallery wrapped prints.

Participants will need to bring a computer, image files for processing and printing, and lots of questions. You will leave with answers, prints, and a 24″ X 36″ Gallery Wrap canvas print of one of your images.
